DTF Heat Press Instructions
Follow these DTF heat press instructions carefully to achieve proper adhesion, vibrant color and a durable finish. Heat presses can vary, so we recommend testing one transfer before completing a large production run.
All Rockin Transfers DTF transfers must be applied with a heat press. Do not use a household iron or Cricut-style craft press.
Recommended DTF Pressing Settings
-
Temperature: 290°F
-
Initial Press Time: 10 seconds
-
Pressure: Heavy
-
Peel Type: Cool peel
-
Finishing Press: 5–10 seconds at 290°F
Step 1: Prepare the Garment
Place the garment flat on the heat press and make sure the application area is clean and free from wrinkles, lint and seams.
Pre-press the garment for 10 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles. Skipping this step may prevent the transfer from adhering correctly.
Step 2: Position the Transfer
Place the DTF transfer on the garment with the printed design facing down and the clear carrier film facing up.
Confirm that the transfer is straight, centered and positioned exactly where you want it. Use heat-resistant tape when necessary to prevent movement.
Step 3: Complete the Initial Press
Cover the transfer with a protective Teflon sheet or parchment paper.
Press at 290°F for 10 seconds using heavy, even pressure. Uneven or insufficient pressure can cause lifting or incomplete adhesion.
Step 4: Allow the Transfer to Cool
Remove the garment from the press and place it on a flat surface. Allow the transfer to cool until it is cool to the touch.
Do not peel the carrier film while the transfer is still hot.
Step 5: Remove the Carrier Film
Slowly peel the clear carrier film away from the design. Watch the edges carefully while peeling.
If any part of the design lifts from the garment, stop peeling. Replace the film, cover the design and press it again for a few additional seconds before allowing it to cool.
Step 6: Complete the Finishing Press
After removing the carrier film, cover the design with a clean Teflon sheet or parchment paper.
Press again at 290°F for 5–10 seconds. The transfer does not need to cool before removing the protective covering after this finishing press.
The second press helps improve adhesion and gives the transfer a more professional finish.
Important Heat-Press Information
Every heat press can produce slightly different results. The displayed temperature may not always match the actual platen temperature. We recommend using a laser thermometer to check for accurate and consistent heat.
Application results may also vary depending on:
-
Heat-press model and condition
-
Actual temperature
-
Pressure level
-
Garment material
-
Fabric thickness
-
Moisture in the garment
-
Seams, collars, pockets or zippers near the pressing area
If necessary, use a heat-press pillow or pressing pad to create a flat application surface.
DTF Transfer Care Instructions
For the best durability:
-
Wait at least 24 hours before washing

-
Avoid bleach and fabric softener
-
Tumble dry on low or hang dry
